Descriptive Text

Purpose of Descriptive text is to describe the specific or particular things, persons, places, etc.

Generic Structure in the Descriptive Text :

1.      Identification/Definition/Introduction

Located in the beginning paragraphs or the first sentence in the paragraph beginning. The utility of Identification is to show things, persons, places which will described / portrayed.

Function of Indentification :

a.      To introduce main idea

b.      To identify the subject

c.       To tell what the topic of the text is.

2.      Description

Description of things that has been designated.

Things that described:

a)      Appearance/performance

b)      Physical features

c)      Behavior/habit

d)      Ability

e)      Food

f)       Specific features

g)      Danger

h)      Advantages

i)        Use

j)        Size

3.      Language Features

a)      Present Tense : If things/persons/places described are still alive

b)      Past Tense : If things/persons/places described don’t exist anymore
