Functional Text

Brief explanation:

1. Functional text is used for everyday information. It is called functional because it helps you function in your day-to-day life. For example, if you wanted to know your friend’s phone number, you would look in a phone book. If you wanted to say something to someone who is absent, you would leave a message. If you took a medicine, you would need to read the directions.

2. A leaflet is a small book or piece of paper advertising something or giving information on a particular subject.

3. Tips give the readers a helpful piece of advice.

4. A chart is information that is clearly arranged in the form of simple picture or set of figures.

5. A table is a list  of numbers, facts, or information arranged in rows across and down a page.

6. A label is a piece of paper or another material that is attached to something and gives information about it.

7. A notice is a written or printed statement that gives information or a warning to people.

8. Particular information can be found from various sources such as tips, charts, labels, and notices.

Invitation is text in the form of solicitation or invitation, so that all the text in it, there is an expression of solicitation may be called "announcement", "short message", "letters" and so on.

Expressions that categorize solicitation :

Example : I invite you to come to my house, this afternoon (03.00 p.m.) on Padayangan Street    number 5 Jakarta
 
2. Come to...
Example : Come to the scout-meeting on Friday, August 12th 2012 in school hall at 04.00 p.m. Come on time!

3. I would like to invite you...
Example : I would like to invite you to participate in the Poetry reading contest that will be held next Saturday, June, 22th 2012 in Junior Hagh School Nusantara,  Magelang

4. I thank/hope for coming...
Example : I hope for coming in the next speaking club of class VIII that will be held every Friday in our school, at 01.00-03.00 p.m. Thank you.

5. Would you please come to...
Example : Would you please come to school to support our football team this afternoon.

6. Do you fancy coming to...
Example : Do you fancy coming to my wedding party at December 31st 2012 at Sunan Hotel
